“Billing and Coding – The Basics for Physicians” is a comprehensive lecture designed to demystify the updated 2023 CPT Evaluation and Management (E/M) guidelines for physicians. Presented by a board-certified ophthalmologist and certified billing and coding specialist, this session addresses common mistakes and oversights that lead to audit failures and claim denials. Participants will explore key definitions, understand the nuances of billing based on time and medical decision making, and learn which activities are included in time-based billing. Through practical examples and case studies—including pediatric patients with new-onset seizures, adults with glaucoma, headaches, and breast cancer—the lecture provides actionable insights to help physicians submit clean claims and optimize reimbursement while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.
