Founded by Dr. Robbie Harriford, the organization was created to help clinicians look beyond the clinical setting and engage more deeply with the human stories that shape health and healing.
Through thoughtfully designed, community-centered experiences, Modern Traditions partners with local practitioners and cultural leaders to illuminate how heritage, tradition, and access influence care. This work is especially meaningful for women in medicine, who often lead with both clinical expertise and a deep commitment to relational, patient-centered care. By creating space for reflection, connection, and expanded perspective, Modern Traditions supports clinicians in developing greater cultural awareness and empathy in their practice.

About the Guatemala Retreat - Maternal Health
This accredited activity is a seven-day, immersive maternal health experience designed to deepen healthcare professionals’ understanding of culturally responsive care through real-world, community-based learning in Guatemala. Blending clinical education with lived experience, the program invites participants to explore how culture, tradition, and health systems intersect to shape pregnancy, birth, and postpartum outcomes.
Through site visits, panel discussions, experiential workshops, and guided reflection, learners engage directly with Maya midwives, community health leaders, and local organizations. Topics include maternal health systems, contraception, nutrition, postpartum care, and community perspectives—each grounded in both clinical insight and cultural context. The experience emphasizes curiosity, humility, and relationship-building as essential components of effective care.
What distinguishes this activity is its place-based, experiential format. Rather than relying solely on traditional instruction, participants learn within the environments where care is delivered—gaining firsthand insight into the beliefs, barriers, and strengths that influence patient decisions and outcomes.

How Pinnacle Supported Modern Traditions Through Joint Providership
Through its joint providership model, Learn at Pinnacle partnered with Modern Traditions to ensure their educational experience met rigorous national accreditation standards while remaining true to its immersive, community-centered design. Pinnacle provided comprehensive oversight of the accreditation process, aligning the activity with requirements from accrediting bodies such as ACCME, ANCC, and ACPE.
Pinnacle managed all aspects of compliance, including content review for balance and bias, collection and evaluation of faculty disclosures, and adherence to interprofessional education standards. The team developed the Activity Detail Page, handled accreditation documentation, and ensured eligibility for CE/CME credit across multiple healthcare disciplines.
In addition, Pinnacle supported the full learner lifecycle by overseeing evaluation strategy, certificate generation, and required reporting. This structured, end-to-end approach allowed Modern Traditions to focus on delivering a meaningful educational experience, while Pinnacle ensured every regulatory and operational detail was executed with precision.
