About Women’s Mental Health in Midlife

Women’s Mental Health in Midlife is a five-hour educational series designed to enhance healthcare professionals’ understanding of the neurobiological, hormonal, and psychosocial factors influencing women’s mental health during perimenopause and midlife. Offered as a five-week live cohort course and subsequently as an enduring, on-demand activity, the program explores the recognition, assessment, differential diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment of psychiatric symptoms associated with reproductive aging.

Across five sessions, participants will examine the effects of hormonal changes on brain function, mood, cognition, and emotional regulation, with focused discussions on depression, anxiety, trauma-related disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Through clinical case discussions, practical applications, and knowledge assessments, learners will strengthen their ability to distinguish hormonally influenced symptoms from primary psychiatric disorders, evaluate pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic treatment options, and develop individualized, patient-centered care plans. The activity emphasizes integrating reproductive health considerations into psychiatric assessment and treatment to improve mental health care for women navigating midlife transitions.

How Pinnacle Supported Bethesda Women’s Mental Health Through Joint Providership
