Nichelle Haynes, DO

Pinnacle Conference 2022 Speaker

Perinatal Psychiatrist, Educator, Mental Health for Motherhood

Dr. Nichelle Haynes is a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in perinatal mental health, supporting individuals through the emotional challenges of infertility, pregnancy, postpartum, and parenting. She practices in Austin, Texas at Reproductive Psychiatry and Counseling, where she is committed to providing personalized, evidence-based care in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Dr. Haynes knew she wanted to become a physician from an early age and developed a deep interest in mental health during high school. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Baylor University, with minors in Biology and Chemistry, combining her love for science with a human-centered approach to care. She went on to earn her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the University of North Texas Health Science Center and completed her psychiatry residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch, where she served as Assistant Chief Resident.

Before joining her current practice, Dr. Haynes led the development of a first-of-its-kind inpatient mental health unit designed specifically for women. There, she treated patients during their most vulnerable moments and became a trusted advocate for compassionate, tailored psychiatric care. A mother of two, she draws from both her clinical expertise and personal experience to help patients feel seen, understood, and empowered in their mental health journeys.

Her dedication to improving access to reproductive mental health care extends beyond the clinic. Dr. Haynes is an active mental health educator on social media, where she provides free, practical guidance and advocates for self-care as a vital part of overall wellness. She believes that every parent deserves the opportunity to enjoy their journey—and that informed, collaborative care can make all the difference.

Dr. Haynes is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, an active board member of the International Society of Reproductive Psychiatry, and a 2024 nominee for the Austin Birth Awards. She is also an LGBTQ+ affirming provider. Outside of work, she is deeply passionate about motherhood, wellness, and normalizing conversations around mental health.
